At this point, the Douyin Frog needs no introduction.

What is this frog costume & why is it going viral on TikTok???

You’ve seen it on TikTok, Instagram, and perhaps if you’re lucky, when the frog is making its rounds somewhere in Singapore.

“Who is this frog?” is one question that comes to mind. “Got so much time, ah?” is another.

Purely spreading joy

If you’re thinking this is a marketing ploy, well, apparently it’s not, the person beneath the frog costume told Babelfish.

And the person behind the costume is Apple, 33, who runs Inner Peace, a home-based business that sells gifts like handmade flower products and customised baby hampers, among other things.

So what has a home-based business specialising in gifts got to do with a Douyin Frog?

Not much, really, apart from the desire to spread joy.

“[I do it] purely just for fun and to bring joy to everyone. YOLO (you only live once), so do something that makes your life happier,” she said.

Goes wherever followers requests

Apple bought the costume off Taobao earlier this year for around S$100 after seeing the trend go viral online.

She posts her shenanigans as the Douyin Frog on two different TikTok pages.

Apple has made her rounds as the Douyin Frog all over Singapore, including Nex, Our Tampines Hub and Paya Lebar Square.

Getting recognition as the Douyin Frog feels “awesome” she says, so she tries to go to different locations every day.

“I try to go out daily to the different malls that were requested by people in the comments [on TikTok],” Apple said.

Meeting Mixue’s Snow King

Most recently, she got to meet Mixue’s mascot, Snow King, and another Douyin Frog.

How did that happen and does she know the other Douyin Frogs in Singapore?

She replied, as a matter-of-factly, that it was just pure luck.

“Mixue’s mascot and the frog mascot are the current Douyin trend so I tried my luck to see if Snow King was around.”

And with enough luck, she managed to pull off such chaotic interactions:

Apple said that it gets hot inside the costume, especially if she runs around.

But that doesn’t dampen her spirits: “I feel great bringing joy and happiness to people!”
